About Us

***The 2018 application process is underway! See the Homepage for more information.***

Police Explorer Post 2252 is a youth-led, career-based program that is sponsored by the Fairfax County Police Department. Membership in Post 2252 gives today's young men and women between the ages of 14 and 21 the opportunity to learn skills necessary to become tomorrow's leaders. Explorers experience the Law Enforcement profession from a unique perspective. Thanks to the support of the Chief of Police, Fairfax County Police Officers teach the Explorers how to investigate a variety of incidents such as traffic violations, automobile crashes, and burglaries. The Explorers also learn how to locate and collect evidence at crime scenes. Additionally, Explorers learn that there is more to the profession than enforcing the law. Community service, crime prevention, and educational programs are an important aspect of a Police Officer's role within the community. Therefore, Explorers participate in events such as National Night Out, child safety seat checkpoints, child fingerprinting and McGruff, the crime dog visits. In exchange for the volunteer hours that Explorers provide for the Police Department, they are given the opportunity to ride with Police Officers on patrol. Explorers can see life through the eyes of a Police Officer and observe how the Police Officers must be prepared to handle anything they encounter.
